A bright, versatile kitchen without the hassle and expense of an expanded footprint.
The homeowners of this Victorian assumed they would need to add on in order to create a larger, more versatile kitchen. When we showed them that we could gain the space they wanted within the existing footprint of their home, they were thrilled. Through creative design we were able to achieve their goals with less disruption, at lower cost, and with lower impact on the environment.
The key to the project was introducing a tall table that doubled as a work island and breakfast table. This small design decision had a big impact. Whereas the clients had been prepared to bump out the kitchen in order to gain sufficient work and eating space, we were able to fulfill both functions within the same space. This in turn freed up resources in the budget for other items on the wish list.

Byggmeister's Solution
We completely renovated the kitchen with well-insulated windows, energy-efficient appliances, and durable products and finishes. We replaced the existing oak with beautiful pale yellow cabinets with inset doors, which brightens the room considerably, and installed granite countertops in a soft green color with a unique figuring that adds interest to the room. The green tile used for the backsplash has a nice beveled edged that accentuates the pattern in the granite and gives more depth to the wall, providing a clean, bright look to the work areas. A new built-in desk in the corner is a place for paying bills, keeping in contact with friends, hiding clutter and storing cookbooks.
The clients couldn't have been happier about the end result. And we couldn't have either. We built them a beautiful new kitchen that will meet their needs and hold its value for years to come, and we did it while holding true to our commitment to sustainability.
