The best of American and Scandinavian influences into one integrated whole.

People don't often associate open and informal spaces with great design and exquisite detail. In this Newton home, the casual, friendly flow of the spaces grows from careful space planning and European-inspired artistry.

Without drastic changes to the footprint of the house, architect Anita Rogers was able to work with the Swedish-born homeowner to turn a slab-on-grade ranch into a home that blends the best of American and Scandinavian influences into one integrated whole. Light woods, traditional materials, and soft but sophisticated colors balance the strong visual impact of Marla Greenman's Carl Larsson-inspired ceiling mural over the dining area. The striking windows welcome in natural light no matter what the sun's angle.
