COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Byggmeister is dedicated to giving back to the local community through pro bono projects that help organizations continue to grow. More importantly, Byggmeister is committed to working with community organizations by actually participating on their committees and in their programs to support their cause.

Thayer Academy
Byggmeister is collaborating with Thayer Academy to convert a single-family ranch-style home to an environmental science classroom. The first phase will include interior renovations to create the classroom space and two handicapped-accessible bathrooms and also, on the exterior, the construction of ramps and stairs for full accessibility. Over time, the project will include superinsulating the exterior, adding of solar panels to generate electricity, and eventually possibly replacing the low-flow toilets with composting toilets. A key component of the project will be closely monitoring the building over time--energy and water usage; air quality; and durability. For instance, the ramps and landings will be made up of five different "green" decking materials so that we can make side-by-side comparison of how they each weather over time. Byggmeister Teams Up For Energy Smackdown
In an effort to build awareness regarding energy costs and how we can lower them, Byggmeister has teamed up with the Energy Smackdown sponsors. The Energy Smackdown is a year long event with teams from Cambridge, Arlington and Medford competing in various events to achieve the lowest carbon emissions. Learn more at energysmackdown.com.

Byggmeister & Zero Net Energy Buildings Task Force
Paul Eldrenkamp is honored to have been appointed the chair of the residential sector working group, a subgroup of Gov. Deval Patrick's Zero Net Energy Task Force, that will address ways to overcome barriers to zero net energy homes in the state of Massachusetts. Learn more about the Task Force at www.mazneb.org.
